Hello - I formally trained in Sheffield, the city of silversmithing and cutlery making, over 20 years ago and gained my Degree in Metalwork and Jewellery.
I have also studied in USA and Italy, exhibited across the UK and in Washington DC and won multiple awards.
I make distinctive pieces of quality - intended to be treasured by you forever.

Ripples have been my signature style since 2006 and I am delighted to have won many prestigious awards over the years.
Some of these include a Goldsmiths Company Precious Metal Bursary Award and a Travel Award from the Armourers and Brasiers Company and Worshipful Company of Cutlers in 2006. The Gold Medal for Craft and Design at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and British Silver Week Young Designer of the Year 2008. Also Goldsmiths Craftsmanship and Design Awards 2006, 2007, 2008.
You can be sure of these high standards when you purchase a Suzie Horan piece.

My work has been featured in the Financial Times, The Guardian, Goldsmith magazine, Benchpeg, Crafts magazine, Evening Standard, Cardiff Life, Big Issue, Welsh Living and Golwg.
I work as sustainably as I can without compromising quality. I buy recycled silver and gold from my trusted suppler of many years. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss having a piece made in gold.

Notable commissions and permanent collections include
Eisteddfod Crown 2010 in Sterling silver and steel
Sterling silver urchin vessel in Sheffield Assay Office Collection
Lustre silver engraved bowl in Sheffield Millennium Galleries
I am proud to have my pieces hallmarked in Sheffield Assay Office. The hallmark includes my own unique makers mark (my initials SMH for Suzie Mary Horan), the fineness of metal (e.g 925 for sterling silver, 750 for 18 carat gold), the Sheffield Assay Office mark (the rose) and often the year hallmarked (different letter every year).
As pieces pass through generations these Assay marks tell a story of where and when the pieces were hallmarked and who made them. I believe this gives the pieces a sense of where they sit in time and place and an extra level of interest, connection and value for you the owner.
Hallmarks are also a form of consumer protection for you as in the UK it is illegal to supply any item as Gold, Silver or Platinum unless hallmarked. Exemption weights apply.
I am extremely grateful for the ongoing support of Sheffield Assay Office, Assay Master Ashley Carson and his amazing team.
My thanks go also to the Arts Council of Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government for their previous support.
